Are you interested in knowing the significance of Ramzan in the Islamic way of life? Want to see the splendour of Jama Masjid and the walled city areas in the holy month of Ramzan?
You will get all your answers during the ‘Raunak-i-Ramzan’, a part of the ‘Walk Delhi’ initiative. To be held on August 19 from 6 pm, the walk will take you around the walled city areas, including Jama Masjid. Itihas founder director Smita Vats will lead the walk.
Muslims fast and pray during the holy month of Ramzan leading up to Eid. The walk will provide a first-hand experience to all to see the breaking of the roza.
“The walkers will be told interesting stories about Islam, the importance of roza, Ramzan and many interesting things related to the festival. This walk will enable walkers to witness how the city prepares itself for its most eagerly awaited festival,” a release from Itihaas, the Indian Traditions and Heritage Society, working for education of tangible and intangible heritage, said.
The walkers will also be treated with an iftaar, the Ramzan feast, the food for which would be cooked by one of the traditional cooks of Purani Dilli.
People aged eight to 80 can participate for a fee, the organisers said adding, there would be a minimum of two walks during the Ramzan period before Eid, that falls on August 31, this year.
Into its eighth year, Itihaas also carries out heritage education programmes across more than 100 schools in Delhi-NCR and taken more than 30,000 children for heritage walks.
