Following the death of Viraj Parmar, a Class 3 student from Shri Vallabhashram School in Sion (east), the school on Wednesday decided to terminate the bus contract with immediate effect.
Viraj Devendra Parmar, a Class 3 student of the school, was killed after he stuck his head out of his school bus window as the bus was moving and hit it on a metal advertisement board.
The school will now float new tenders for another school bus contractor.
Authorities said the bus owner has been associated with the school for more than 15 years.
According to the school authorities, it is the first time that such an accident has taken place.
“Such a mishap could have happened anywhere. Having said that, we will sack the owner of the bus,” said Rosy Singh, principal of the school.
The principal claims that the safety norms detailed in the state’s bus safety policy had been given to the driver and that the tragedy was not the school’s fault.
“We had provided all the safety norms to the bus owners and they did not follow it,” she said.
“We are still in a state of shock and don’t know how it happened,” added Singh.
Singh said Viraj was a bright and adorable child. The school will remain shut on Thursday to mourn the death of the nine-year-old student.
