But while the Bharatiya Jantaa Party's (BJP) two-hour-long “manthan baithak” (introspection meet) on Monday came up with a host of reasons for its drubbing, it failed to churn out any conclusive corrective measure to revive the party's sagging fortunes in the city.
Going into the reasons behind the party's poor performance, BJP leaders found that it was not issues—local or national—but the current of the Congress wave in the country which was responsible for its debacle.
Party leaders also blamed MCD—which is run by BJP—for its ineffectiveness and failure to reach out to more people.
“Delhi's result should not be viewed in isolation from the rest of the country,” said O.P. Kohli (73), Delhi BJP president. “ We, like, others failed to read the ground situation.”
“If you compare this result with the Assembly result last year, you would see that our vote share has not altered drasticall,” said Kohli. “In the Assembly elections our vote share was 36 per cent, which went down to 35 per cent this time. Compared to this, the Congress's vote share went up from 41 per cent to 57 per cent."
Asked if the party would make anybody accountable for its bad show, Kohli said, "We have got complaints certain members had worked against the party's interest. We are looking into the complaints and necessary disciplinary action would be taken soon."
