Utsav Sharma, the man who attacked Rajesh Talwar at a Ghaziabad court with a cleaver, is the same person who inflicted knife injuries on former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore, convicted in the Ruchika molestation case, a year back in Chandigarh.
He was granted bail.
29-year-old Utsav Sharma, who is said to be suffering from a psychological disorder, is a resident of Navada Lanka in Varanasi.
Sharma, a student in Ahmedabad’s prestigious NID, had stabbed 68-year-old Rathore thrice in the face with a pocket knife while posing as a journalist.
Utsav's mother is a psychiatrist and a professor at the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, and his father Sushil Kumar Sharma is a professor of Mechanical Engineering in IT-Banaras Hindu University.
Parents of Utsav Sharma had earlier said that their son was under treatment for depression and he was dead against any kind of injustice
Utsav is pursuing a post-graduate diploma course in animation and film design at the prestigious National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad.
Utsav, who has done his Bachelor's in Fine Arts course from the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), joined the NID in 2006 as a student of animation design and was in the final stage of his diploma slated to get over in 2008, said NID registrar Vijaya Deshmukh.
A bright student, who bagged a merit scholarship during his bachelor's course, Utsav belongs to a family of academicians. While his father S.K. Sharma is a professor in the mechanical engineering department at the BHU, his mother teaches in the department of psychiatry.
