After Noida and Gurgaon, the Metro rail service is likely to be introduced in another town in the National Capital Region (NCR): Faridabad.
To aid the planning of this phase of Metro expansion and provide data that Faridabad district did need Metro services, the Haryana Government assessed the mobility situation of Faridabad on Monday and Tuesday. The government hired services of a private agency, which has been entrusted with the task of collecting date of vehicles/people traveling to Delhi from Faridabad. This exercise was being done under the supervision of the officials of Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), Faridabad.
The data of mobility situation was collected at peak hours - both in the morning and evening at different points like Prehladpur Road, Faridabad-Chattarpur road, Shooting Range road, Badarpur road, Sector 37 point, by-pass road and other points on Delhi-Mathura road.
"Yes, we are in the process of conducting a Comprehensive Mobility Plan, which started on Monday", said D Suresh, Administrator, HUDA Faridabad.
“I was told a mobility survey conducted some time ago had found out that about 12,000 persons travel to Delhi in one hour at the peak time.
" By collecting fresh data about peak time travelers to Delhi using different routes, we are going to enhance the study and forward it to our headquarters so that the same is sent to Union Urban Development Ministry", Suresh added.
It may be mentioned that officials of the Union Urban Development Ministry, Haryana Government, Delhi Government and DMRC agreed in principal recently at a meeting for extension of metro rail service to Faridabad.
" Yes, the officials agreed in principal in the meeting that Faridabad needed to have metro rail facility", Suresh said. The officials said that collection of data about users of various road points leading to Delhi and back-will end Tuesday evening and the report will be submitted to Administrator HUDA.
