Woman dies while saving husband

On Friday evening, Deepak Bansal, a shopkeeper, returned home around 7.30pm. Less than 10 minutes later, his wife, Monika, 34, lay in his arms with a bullet wound in her chest.
Monika was shot when she tried to save her husband from a pair of unidentified bike-borne robbers. The incident took place in Shalimar Bagh area.
"Bansal had just returned from his shop in Khadi Baoli and was waiting for Monika. They had to go to the market. When Monika came downstairs, she saw the two bikers and one of them was holding a country-made pistol," Meena Choudhary, DCP (northwest), said.
"As they were about to attack Bansal, Monika pounced on the pillion rider, who turned around and shot her in the chest," Choudhary added.
The assailants managed to flee with a bag they had snatched from Bansal.
Monika, who was shot in the chest, was immediately rushed to Fortis Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. A case of robbery and murder has been registered at the Shalimar Bagh police station.
Earlier, late on Thursday, a dance teacher was critically injured when unidentified persons fired three bullets at him in Kalyanpuri area. The victim, Sunil Kumar, was attacked when he was standing near Gazipur toll post to catch an autorickshaw. "A resident of Karol Bagh, Sunil had come to attend a family function on Thursday evening," said a senior police officer.
Sunil was rushed to Lal Bahadur Hospital, where his condition is said to be critical. Further investigations are on.
