Beenu Rawat, the woman who was assaulted by assistant commissioner of police BS Ahlawat at east Delhi's Swami Dayanand Hospital, filed a written complaint against the senior cop on Tuesday.
The complaint comes a day after Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar told reporters that he was willing to take action against the ACP if the victim woman came forward with a formal complaint.
Rawat was slapped repeatedly by the senior police officer when she was protesting against police apathy at the east Delhi hospital, where the five-year-old rape victim had been undergoing treatment. The minor was first taken to Swami Dayanand Hospital before being shifted to AIIMS.
Ahlawat, who was posted at Khajuri Khas division, was caught on camera assaulting Rawat. Following huge uproar over his behaviour, he had been suspended.
"We have received a written complaint from her and the process of registering a criminal case is under process," said a senior police officer associated with the inquiry into the matter.
On Monday, the commissioner had promised stricter punitive action against the suspended ACP in addition to investigating lax police response after the rape of minor girl.
"Prima facie, there were shortfalls on the part of staff. We ordered a vigilance inquiry against the SHO and investigating officer and even before the inquiry is over, we have placed them under suspension because there we found prima facie there are some faults," the commissioner had said.
Apart from action against the SHO of Gandhi Nagar, Dharampal Singh and SI Mahavir Singh, the investigating officer in the case, a vigilance inquiry is on into allegations that some cops had offered R2,000 to the girl's family to hush up the case.
