The Delhi Police on Wednesday smashed an intercity prostitution racket with the arrest of five women, including a proclaimed offender, and two cousins of a notorious pimp, who is currently behind bars.
Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south), said 27-year-old Nagma Khan, whose parents are settled in Saudi Arabia, is the gang leader and was currently operating from two flats that she owns in the posh Chhatarpur Enclave area.
“Khan, who speaks fluent English, has a network of girls which she operated across three cities, including Pune and Mumbai besides Delhi. Used to a luxurious lifestyle, she usually celebrates her new years abroad and has been arrested by the Delhi Police twice earlier for immoral trafficking,” Sharma said.
Police said her colleagues, Sanjay, 21, and Vijay Bhatia, 25, were her main aides. The Bhatia brothers, according to police, are related to Sonu Punjaban, the high-profile escort service operator who was arrested in April this year and is currently in Tihar Jail after being slapped with the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
Hailing from Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh and currently operating from a well-furnished flat in Chhatarpur Enclave’s B-block, Khan used to travel in a white, A4 series Audi, police said. “She used her flats as brothel houses and even provided auxiliary services to her customers in addition to hospitality, ferrying them in her Audi car and offering them girls priced between Rs 5,000 and Rs 50,000,” the DCP added.
A police team busted the racket with the help of a decoy customer who met one of the pimps, who was travelling in a Santro car, near Qutub Minar on Tuesday evening.
“After making enquiries about the girls, the decoy customer asked the pimp to show him the girls. He then drove away from there and after a fewminutes, two girls drove up to the customer in an Audi,” said a senior police officer investigating the matter.
For the well-dressed girl on the driver’s seat, the pimp asked R40,000 and R10,000 for the girl sitting next to her. When the decoy expressed his inability to pay such a high rate, the pimp offered the services of “cheaper” call girls for which he took the decoy to Khan’s flat.
A police team, which was hiding nearby, followed the pimp’s vehicle, raided the flat and apprehended five girls, including Khan, from the premises.
One arrested for trafficking minors
The police have arrested a woman for trafficking minor girls from West Bengal. Three girls were rescued, police added. The accused, identified, as Laili used to work as an agent for a Delhi-based placement cell. These girls were trafficked to work as domestic help and kept in confinement.
“After receiving specific inputs, a raid was conducted and three minor girls from West Bengal were found confined in a house in Taimoor Nagar in New Friends Colony,” Ajay Chaudhry, additional commissioner of police (southeast) said.
Police have taken the statement of the girls who told the police that Laili was working as an agent. Janman Joy Kamal, the owner of the placement agency ‘Joy Placement’, is absconding.
