Four persons, including two women, have been murdered in different parts of the Capital in the past 24 hours.
In north Delhi’s Lahori Gate, a 58-year-old woman was found dead inside her flat on Monday morning.
Police said the women’s flat had been ransacked and cash and jewellery worth around R5 lakh were missing from the house. Geeta Nigam lived alone in her second-floor flat in the Khari Baoli area.
A case of murder has been registered at the Lahori Gate police station. The police have neither ruled out the possibility of murder during the robbery nor have given clean chits to the relatives of the woman.
A senior police officer said the matter came to light around 11am when Nigam’s brother, who lives on the third floor of the building, came to meet her sister and found her lying dead on the floor.
“A wire was found around her neck. This suggested she was strangled to death. We also found an injury mark on her head,” said the senior officer. A 32-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by his friend for having an illicit relationship with his wife. The incident took place in outer Delhi’s Alipur on Sunday evening.
The police have arrested the victim’s friend, Ranjit, who surrendered at the Alipur police station on Monday morning.
Ranjit, a senior police officer said, arrived at the police station and claimed that he had killed Ram Kumar at his house.
“We were surprised after hearing his confession and in order to confirm it, a team was sent to his house. The team found Ram's body with multiple stab wounds,” said the officer.
A 30-year-old man from Morena in Madhya Pradesh was killed in Azadpur in northwest Delhi on Monday. Deepak, who works as a truck conductor, was found lying in pool of blood early morning near shed No. 15 at Azadpur wholesale market.
During investigation, police found that he had a verbal argument with his driver Kalla on Sunday night over some issue. Kalla hit him on his head with a heavy object and fled from the spot.
In outer Delhi's Shahbad Dairy, the decomposed body of an unidentified woman, aged between 25 and 30 years, was found in a pit with police saying the victim was dumped after being murdered.
