A day after a 25-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide at a Metro station by consuming poison, the police have arrested her husband and in-laws on alleged charges of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide.
The arrested persons have been identified as Dipak, 27, the woman’s husband, her father-in-law Yogesh and mother-in-law Usha. They were arrested following investigation into a complaint filed by the woman’s brother.
A senior police officer said, Shilpa was found in an unconscious state at Dwarka Sector-12 Metro station around 2.30pm on Saturday. She was spotted by a security guard deployed at the Metro station and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
Shilpa, a senior police officer said, had left her in-laws’ house in west Delhi’s Vishnu Garden around 11.30am on Saturday following an argument over alleged dowry harassment.
“It has been learnt that Shilpa boarded a train from Vishnu Garden Metro station and reached Dwarka Sector-12. She consumed a chemical substance from a small bottle which she was carrying. After consuming the poison, Shilpa fell unconscious,” said the senior officer.Shilpa’s brother said he tried to contact her on her mobile phone but got no response, the police said. One of the calls was reportedly received by a passenger who informed him that Shilpa was lying unconscious.
A call to the police control room was made and a PCR van took her to the hospital. On the basis of her brother’s complaint, a case was registered at the Raja Garden Metro police station.
