A 30-year-old woman, wife of a Air Force personnel, was allegedly set on fire by her parents-in-law at Shastri Nagar area of Ghaziabad on Saturday afternoon.
The victim later succumbed to her injuries at the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, police said on Sunday.
Shruti Khullar was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi after her condition deteriorated at a private hospital in Ghaziabad on Saturday.
“In her statement to the police before her death, the victim had accused her mother-
in-law of setting her on fire,” Senior Superintendent of Police SSP) Raghubir Lal said.
“Although it seems like a case of self-immolation, we have ordered for an investigation by a Circle Officer (CO) to dig out the truth, the SSP said.
The victim’s parents have lodged a criminal cases against her mother-in-law, husband and her sister-in-law at the Kavi Nagar police station on Saturday night, police said.
The family members said that it was a second marriage for both the victim and her husband. The two had a child each from their previous marriages.
Meanwhile, the police on Sunday arrested 58- year-old Sulochna Khullar, victim’s mother-in-law in connection with the case, the SSP said.
The other two accused and Manohar Khullar — the victim’s husband — could not be apprehended. “A criminal case under the Dowry Act and 304-B of the IPC has been lodged.
“Her husband is posted in Nasik and we are trying to nab the two others,” SSP said.
