A 30-year-old man was critically injured after his sister and brothers allegedly set him on fire at Dasna Gate area of Ghaziabad, police said.
The incident occurred after the family members entered into an argument over division of ancestral property and jewellery, police added. Raju Kumar suffered around 40% burn injuries in the incident and was rushed to the MMG district hospital in a very critical condition. Police officials said Ram Kumar, father of the victim, had called Raju, his sister Preeti Kumar, 27, and two brothers — Mukesh Kumar and Suresh Kumar — to settle a property dispute within the family, on Thursday.
“During the discussion, the siblings fought over the division of property and jewellery. This is when the sister poured kerosene on the victim and set him on fire. She fled the spot after the incident,” superintendent of police (SP) AK Vijeta said. The two brothers were nabbed by police after the victim’s wife, Asha Kumar lodged an attempt to murder case against the three. The accused alleged that the victim had locked the two houses in question, leading to an altercation.
“Our sister is behind the incident. During the clash, I rushed to the nearest police post to inform the police. Later, I came to know that she poured kerosene on our brother and set him on fire,” Suresh Kumar, one of the brothers. The SP said a search was on for the absconding woman, while her two brothers were arrested on Friday.
The victim is said to be in a stable condition.
