Newly appointed CBI director Amar Pratap Singh said if the investigative agency has evidence on file, it will not hesitate to take action against anybody.
Singh was talking after taking charge of the office from Ashwani Kumar, who retired on Tuesday.
Singh’s assurance comes in context of the Central Bureau of Investigation probing into the scams in Commonwealth Games and 2G technology licences, where politicians such as Suresh Kalmadi and A Raja are under the scanner.
Without getting into specifics of any case, the new director said the agency will not cower under any pressure.
Singh, a 1974 batch IPS officer of Jharkhand cadre, said the agency worked by the law. “Whatever evidence comes to us or whatever evidence that we examine, whoever the person is, big or small, if we have evidence, we will take action,” he said.
Recently, the Supreme Court lashed out at CBI over the lack of proper investigation into the 2G scam. Singh, who was a special director with the agency for two years, said he will see what the court’s concerns are and try to address them.
Singh, a post-graduate in history from Delhi’s St Stephen’s College, also said that under his stewardship, the agency will try to crack the mystery behind Aarushi murder case.
