The CBI is still awaiting crucial phone intercepts in the AgustaWestland deal as, in a last-minute interruption, the Italian court hearing the case trial has first decided to settle the issue of their admissibility as evidence.

A CBI official stating that it would be long drawn legal battle said, “The Milan court hearing the case has decided to form a two-member panel to take a call on the admissibility of phone calls intercepted by the Italian prosecutors. The panel will start working on August 10.”

Earlier the Milan court had instructed the Italian prosecutors to hand over case documents and phone intercepts to the CBI. But phone intercepts could not be handed to the CBI due to the issue of their admissibility as evidence. Now only if the Milan court admits it as evidence , can the CBI get them.
