Kapil Chauhan, a 26-year-old DU commerce graduate working for a leading IT firm, allegedly turned chain-snatcher to get lucky in love.
Looking for quick money to impress his girlfriend with lavish dates and expensive gifts, he teamed up with school friend Mohammad Irfan.
Together, the Sangam Vihar residents committed a series of snatchings over two years before luck ran out and they landed in the police net on Saturday.
Two constables patrolling south Delhi’s Pushp Vihar on August 10 heard the cries of the duo’s victim and arrested the men after a 2-km motorcycle chase.
“Two gold chains, two pistols and the same number of live cartridges were found in their possession,” said an officer of the Saket police station. “Chauhan told us his monthly salary was not enough to support his girlfriend’s daily expenses, so he turned to crime.”
With the arrest of the two, the police claimed to have solved eighteen cases of snatching.
