A day after they came under fire from a child rights panel, the Delhi Police on Thursday withdrew a controversial advertisement published in national dailies on Tuesday.

The advertisement, which portrayed a male street child with the caption “Help him learn how to chop an onion. Before someone teaches him how to chop a head,” was questioned by the Delhi Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR).

“Our intentions behind the advertisement were noble and did not seek to hurt anyone’s sentiments,” said Rajan Bhagat, additional DCP and police spokesperson. “We regret it and have withdrawn it with immediate effect.”
