Union Tourism Ministry is developing Kargil, the scene of the 1999 Indo-Pak conflict, into an ideal tourist destination with an investment of Rs 484.47 lakh.

Besides, it is also developing the Drass-Panikhar and Drass-Sankhoo sections at an investment of Rs 241.70 lakh and Rs 472.32 lakh, respectively.

Tourism Minister Kumari Selja said funds for the development of these places have been placed during the Eleventh Plan period.
In a written reply in Lok Sabha, she also said Tourism Ministry has asked the state governments to deploy police at tourist spots in order to ensure security of tourists.
