KNC journalism test tough, say students
Close to 350 students took the Journalism (Honours) entrance test at the Kamla Nehru College on Tuesday.
The test, which was held between 10 and 11.30 am, assessed candidates on their proficiency in English and general awareness. While most students seemed happy with their performance, some were seen complaining about the paper being too lengthy. The paper required candidates to write a 750-word opinion piece, short paragraphs on television shows and newspaper editorials and correct grammatical errors in passage from Alice in Wonderland.
“We were expecting more multiple choice and objective-type of questions. Instead we were asked to write lengthy answers and edit long paragraphs. One and a half hours is not enough to do all this,” said Nidhi Balyan, an applicant.
In response to the complaint a teacher said, “This test is strictly meant for those who have a flair for writing. Candidates who had a problem with the format of the paper will find it difficult to study this subject and cope with deadlines, something that is very important in the field of journalism.”
Students like Devika Singh feel this test has now provided applicants with an idea of what they should expect in the upcoming tests of other colleges. The college has 30 seats for this course and the interview list of suceessful candidates will be put up on June 21. Delhi College of Arts and Commerce is the next in line to conduct its test, which is scheduled on June 18.
