To provide better opportunities to students struggling to get admission due to limited seats, Delhi minister of higher education, AK Walia, has instructed the department to explore the possibilities of increasing the number of seats at Dr. Ambedkar University. He proposed opening a few new colleges affiliated to it.
Walia said this will help correct the warped demand-supply ratio. A meeting was held on Wednesday where Walia instructed the department to look into admission-related issues. The minister has asked the department to conduct an in-depth study to ascertain the causes of problem. They also predicted that the problem is not only here to stay, but also might magnify in the coming few years.
“We will have to take into account both short term and long term measures to offer better admission opportunities to the students in Delhi,” said Walia. Taking note of the lack of good infrastructure in certain professional colleges affiliated to the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), Walia has also asked the department to start working on constructing a new campus in east Delhi.
Walia has also instructed the department to work on an information brochure to provide all the relevant information with respect to all the state-run universities and other deemed universities.
