Police recovered from them 27.5 kg of opium - the biggest haul of the narcotic substance in the capital in the last two years - and 750 gm of heroin, valued at Rs 10 million in the international market.

According to the police, Paramjeet and Gurpreet were arrested from the Sarai Kale Khan inter-state bus terminal in south Delhi. A total of 14.5 kg opium and 750 gm of heroin was recovered from them.

They were arrested following a tip-off that some opium smugglers from Punjab would pass through the capital while transporting their consignments from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan to Jammu and Himachal Pradesh, police said.

After interrogating the duo, police nabbed Narain Singh from Kota in Rajasthan and Angrej Singh from a petrol pump near GT Karnal Road in Haryana and recovered 13 kg opium from them.

"During investigations it was established that the accused were sending the consignment to Pathankot and Jammu using the services of truck drivers," Deputy Commissioner of Police AS Cheema said.

On Saturday, three alleged drug peddlers were arrested in the capital and cocaine worth Rs 3.25 million was recovered from them.
