A total of 6.5 lakh students had appeared for the Secondary School Certificate exams conducted between March 26 and April 11.

In keeping with the national trend, girls scored a pass percentage of 91.71%, compared to the boys' figure of 91.15%.

“Here too the girls have showed their better performance. The overall pass percentage of 91.42% is a bit higher than last year and is a record high,” AP education minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said while releasing the results in Visakhapatnam.

According to district-wise figures, Kadapa topped the state with the maximum pass percentage of 98.54% while Chittoor fares at the bottom with 71.29%.

A total of 34.5% schools in the state recorded a 100% pass figure, while only one school in Srikakulam district scored a zero. Also, 4,685 students scored a perfect 10/10 GPA.

However, Rao made the results political by choosing to compare Andhra students’ performance with that of Telangana. “We scored a pass percentage of 91.42% while Telangana’s is only 77.56% ,” the minister said.

Telangana released its results on Sunday and recorded a pass percentage of 77.56%, a notch lesser than the previous year. Girls scored a better pass percentage with 79.04% compared to the boys' 76.11%.

The two states – after the split of united Andhra Pradesh last June – went for separate exams this summer, taking their unending rivalry into education sector too.

Meanwhile, the Board of Intermediate Education in Andhra Pradesh has released the schedule for admissions into intermediate colleges offering +2 courses across the state. The first phase of admissions would commence on June 1.
