The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday released the Class 12 results for all regions with 23 students grabbing top three positions.

For Lucknow’s Ayushi Upadhyay, who secured third rank in CBSE Class 12 examination, the result came as a big surprise.

“I was expecting to do well in the examination, but never thought that I will secure third rank in the country.

Certainly, it came as a big surprise. I studied all through the year and used to get all my doubts cleared from my teacher,” said a jubilant Ayushi, a student of the Lucknow Public School (South City).

“I stayed away from social media and focussed on my studies. I do not have a Facebook account,” she said.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday released the Class 12 results for all regions with 23 students grabbing top three positions. Two students stood first, three got second position while 18 others bagged the third spot.

Ayushi shared the third rank with 17 others securing 497 marks out of 500. She scored 100 each in history and Hindi, and 99 each in English, Economics and Geography.

Ayushi wants to pursue BA LLB Honours either from the National Law University, Delhi or any other reputed national law university and thereafter wants to become an IAS officer. “I believe that every citizen, especially an IAS officer, must have good knowledge of country’s law and Constitution,” she said.

“Apart from academics, I participated in national level debate. I am also a good badminton player and an orator,” she said.

Her father Surya Prakash Upadhyay is an advocate and mother Pratibha Upadhyay is a teacher at an intermediate college.

Her parents said they were confident that their daughter would secure a good rank in the Board examination given the hard work she had put in during the last two years. Her uncle is an inspector general of police (1998 batch) and is posted in Odisha.

Her school principal Rashmi Pathak said she was very happy with her performance. “She is an all-rounder and has brought laurels to the school,” she said.

Her school manager Lokesh Singh has also announced a cash award of Rs 1 lakh for Ayushi.

“I have not yet decided as to how would I spend the money that the school management has announced for me,” she said.

Two girls from Uttar Pradesh -- Hansika Shukla of Delhi Public School, Meerut Road, Ghaziabad, and Karishma Arora of SD Public School, Muzaffarnagar -- have topped the examination with 499 out of 500 marks.

Three girls -- Gaurangi Chawla of Nirmal Ashram School, Rishikesh, Aishwarya of KV Rae Bareli, Bhavya BR of the SK International Public School Jind, Haryana -- stood second with 498 marks each.

This is not for the first time that Lucknow girls have done well in CBSE Class 12 with humanities. In 2014, Lucknow girl, Kriti Sapra of Manipal Public School topped in Allahabad region in CBSE Class 12 examination by scoring 98.2%.

Another girl, Akshita Khanna of Study Hall, secured 97.4%, again in arts stream.
