It was a one way contest with Bharatiya Janata Party's Patel Hasmukhbhai Somabhai ( H. S. PATEL ) comfortably winning the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Chauhan Arvindsinh Vishvanathsinh ( ARVIND CHAUHAN ) by a huge margin of 49,732 votes.
The top two candidates split 95.5% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Patel Hasmukhbhai Somabhai ( H. S. PATEL ) got a total of 1,05,694 votes, while Indian National Congress's Chauhan Arvindsinh Vishvanathsinh ( ARVIND CHAUHAN ) secured 55,962 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Rabari Bhikhabhai Mafabhai secured 4,197 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 62.4%, 33.1% and 2.5% respectively.
