In 2017, 14 candidates were contesting for Chanasma assembly constituency seat. Chanasma was one of 99 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. It was a close contest with Bharatiya Janata Party's Dilipkumar Viraji Thakor winning the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Desai Raghubhai Merajbhai by a margin of just 8,234 votes.
The top three candidates split 95.5% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Dilipkumar Viraji Thakor secured a total of 73,771 votes, while Indian National Congress's Desai Raghubhai Merajbhai got 65,537 votes. Independent candidate Thakor Dineshbhai Aataji bagged 27,633 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 42.2%, 37.5% and 15.8% respectively.
