It was a close contest with Indian National Congress's Solanki Naushadji Bhalajibhai winning the election upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Ramanlal Ishvarlal Vora by a margin of just 3,728 votes.
95.6% of the total votes were casted to top two candidates. Indian National Congress's Solanki Naushadji Bhalajibhai got a total of 74,009 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Ramanlal Ishvarlal Vora got 70,281 votes.
