In 2017, 10 candidates were contesting for Idar assembly constituency seat. Idar was one of 99 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Bharatiya Janata Party's Kanodiya Hitu won the election by defeating Indian National Congress's Manibhai Jethabhai Vaghela by a margin of 14,813 votes.
The top two candidates split 95.2% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Kanodiya Hitu got a total of 98,815 votes, while Indian National Congress's Manibhai Jethabhai Vaghela secured 84,002 votes. Independent candidate Solanki Natvarbhai Govabhai secured 3,610 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 51.5%, 43.8% and 1.9% respectively.
