In 2017, 12 candidates were competing for Surat North assembly constituency seat. Surat North was one of 99 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. It was a one way contest with Bharatiya Janata Party's Balar Kantibhai Himmatbhai comfortably winning the election defeating Indian National Congress's Kachhadiya Dineshbhai Manubhai by a huge margin of 20,022 votes.
The top two candidates split 97.7% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Balar Kantibhai Himmatbhai got a total of 58,788 votes, while Indian National Congress's Kachhadiya Dineshbhai Manubhai secured 38,766 votes. All India Hindustan Congress Party's candidate Solanki Riteshbhai Nareshbhai secured 522 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 58.9%, 38.8% and 0.5% respectively.
