S.A.S.Nagar comes under the Rupnagar district and it is one of the 117 Punjab Legislative Assembly Constituencies . People of S.A.S.Nagar voted for Punjab Assembly Election 2022 on February 20 and the result was declared on March 10.
In Punjab Assembly Election 2017, there were 2,09,464 registered voters for S.A.S.Nagar assembly seat, out of which 1,10,118 were male and 99,346 were female voters. 0.5% of voters opted for for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
In 2017, 15 candidates were competing for S.A.S.Nagar assembly constituency seat. S.A.S.Nagar was one of 77 seats won by the Indian National Congress. It was a one way contest with Indian National Congress's Balbir Singh Sidhu comfortably winning the election defeating Aam Aadmi Party's Narinder Singh by a huge margin of 27,873 votes.
The top three candidates split 97.3% of votes between them. Indian National Congress's Balbir Singh Sidhu got a total of 66,844 votes, while Aam Aadmi Party's Narinder Singh secured 38,971 votes. Shiromani Akali Dal's candidate Tejinder Pal Singh grabbed the third spot with 30,031 votes. The top three parties got 47.9%, 27.9% and 21.5% respectively.
In Punjab Assembly election 2012, Indian National Congress's Balbir Singh Sidhu defeated Shiromani Akali Dal's Balwant Singh Ramoowalia by 16,756 votes.
