The top three candidates split 89.6% of votes between them. Bahujan Samaj Party's Lal Ji Verma got a total of 84,358 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Awdhesh Kumar Dwivedi secured 78,071 votes. Samajwadi Party's candidate Jaishankar Pandey grabbed the third spot with 45,532 votes. The top three parties got 36.3%, 33.6% and 19.6% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Shankhalal Manjhi outperformed Bahujan Samaj Party's Lalji Verma by 17,620 votes.
