In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election, there were 12 candidates in the fray from Menhdawal constituency. Menhdawal was one of 312 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Bharatiya Janata Party's Rakesh Singh Baghel won the election upstaging Bahujan Samaj Party's Anil Kumar Tripathi by a margin of 42,914 votes.
The top three candidates split 75.9% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Rakesh Singh Baghel got a total of 86,976 votes, while Bahujan Samaj Party's Anil Kumar Tripathi secured 44,062 votes. Samajwadi Party's candidate Jaichand Alias Jairam Pandey grabbed the third spot with 37,557 votes. The top three parties got 39.2%, 19.8% and 16.9% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Laxmikant defeated Peace Party's Anil Kumar by 16,073 votes.
