Karnprayag assembly constituency had 95,505 electors in 2017, out of which 48,956 were male voters and 46,549 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 0.8% votes.

Bharatiya Janata Party's Surendra Singh Negi won the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Dr. Ansuya Parsad Maikhuri by a margin of 7,549 votes.

Bharatiya Janata Party's Surendra Singh Negi got a total of 28,159 votes, while Indian National Congress's Dr. Ansuya Parsad Maikhuri secured 20,610 votes. Communist Party Of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation)'s candidate Indresh Maikhuri secured 1,331 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 52.5%, 38.4% and 2.5% respectively.
In Uttarakhand Assembly election 2012, Indian National Congress's Ansuya Prasad Maikhuri defeated independent candidate Surendra Singh Negi by 227 votes.
