BCCI chief's gay son harassed by father?
News of BCCI chief N Srinivasan harassing his 43-year-old gay son Ashwin is making headlines across the media. There are few questions that need to be answered though - Why did he choose to speak now? Why at 43?entertainment Updated: May 23, 2012 14:20 IST
News of BCCI chief N Srinivasan harassing his 43-year-old gay son Ashwin is making headlines across the media. While Ashwin says his father is a homophobic and has been harassing him and his partner Avi Mukherjee since 1999, Srinivasan chooses not to comment on the issue.
Ashwin was arrested for a brawl in a Mumbai restaurant. He claims his father used his clout to get him beaten up as Srinivasan is against homosexuality. Ashwin spent a night in lock-up.
The fact that the harassment is going on since 1999, and Ashwin chooses to speak about the issue now at the age of 43 sounds a little bizarre. Why didn't he speak out before? The so-called restaurant brawl might have triggered the revelation, but 13 years is a long time.
And if the son's allegations are true, it's rather barbaric for a father to beat up his son, instead of accepting his choices in life. If honour killing is a reality, this episode, if true, can be termed as 'honour harassing'.
My father is vehemently against homosexuality and has been asking me to change since 1998 when I came out to my parents,” Ashwin told DNA. “Things began to worsen when I fell in love with Avi in 1999. We have come close to losing our lives and sanity due to the constant physical and mental torture,” he added.
"My father has said openly that Avi is a parasite who has dragged me into homosexuality because he wants my money. Given his immense powers, it’s been very rough on Avi,” says Ashwin.
Srinivasan refused to comment. “What is happening is a private family matter. I am not going to comment on tha,” he told the tabloid.
