Liger Twitter review: The film failed to get favourable feedback from fans, who said it lacked a good story and seemed formula-driven, despite Vijay Deverakonda and Ramya Krishnan's best effort. Liger also stars Ananya Panday.

Vijay Deverakonda’s Liger, which marks his Bollywood debut, has opened to mixed response with the majority of the audience calling the film ‘formulaic’. While Vijay’s transformation into an MMA fighter has been appreciated, people have described his hard work as ‘wasted opportunity’ as the film fails to live up to the hype. Liger is backed by Karan Johar, and also stars Ananya Panday, Ramya Krishnan and Ronit Roy. It was promoted extensively as a pan-India film. Directed by Puri Jagannadh, the Telugu and Tamil versions of Liger released on August 25. The Hindi version releases in theatres on Friday.

The film managed to have a wide release as it opened to shows as early as 4am in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. Despite banking on great pre-release hype, Liger failed to get favourable reviews from fans. One Twitter user wrote: “In Liger, Vijay Deverakonda’s transformation is stunning, and he gives a committed performance. But it is a wasted opportunity. The narration is totally formulaic. Where’s the story?”

Meanwhile, one Twitter user praised the earnest efforts made by Vijay and Ramya, but asked why their potential was wasted in a ‘bad’ film. In a series of tweets about Liger, the user wrote: “To be honest, Puri Jagannadh’s golden days are over. It's fine if his films are bad. But why take a star like Vijay Deverakonda and an actor like Ramya Krishna down with you? They are both so earnest in their performances, it breaks your heart to see them in a film that couldn’t care less. It's so wrong.”

Another user wrote he was ‘disappointed’ by Liger. He said that the film failed to capture the pan-India image. “The idea of pan-India cinema is a bubble. Go back to the basics, have a solid story in place,” wrote the user.

Vijay spoke about Liger during a recent interview, where he said he was not scared about the film’s fate. Vijay added he had his mother's blessings, people's love, and God's support. News agency ANI quoted Vijay as saying, "With Liger we expected a bit of drama...but we'll fight. We've put our heart into making this film. And I believe that I am correct. I feel that there is no room for fear, when I had nothing, I didn't fear, and now after having achieved something, I don't think there needs to be any fear even now. Maa ka aashirwaad hai, Logon ka pyaar hai, bhagwaan ka haath hai, andar aag hai, Kaun rokenge dekh lenge (We have mother's blessings, people's love, God's support, a fire inside us, we will see who will stop us)!"
