John Abraham plans to open a football academy with footballer friend Baichung Bhutia.

The duo have finalised the details, but it will take a while for the academy to take off as it involves a huge amount of paperwork and permissions from authorities.

John AbhramAbraham confirmed the news, but refused to divulge any details as the project was still in its infancy. "Both Baichung and I share a passion for the game and it saddens us to see the sport suffer the brunt of bureaucracy.

We want to set things right so that more Baichung Bhutias can mushroom, and football can be a viable career for them,” reasons the actor.

Long term plans
Abraham was to attend the FIFA World Cup final on July 11 in Johannesburg, but he couldn’t even watch the match on television because he had to shoot for Vishal Bhardwaj’s Saat Khoon Maaf.

“Bipasha watched it and had fun. And Vishal compensated by giving me a fantastic song so I’m not complaining,” he grins. Abraham is also turning producer soon and plans to make a film on soccer.

“It will take us a while to match the standards set by films like Remember The Titans (2000) so I’ll start with a small, unpretentious film that toasts the sporting spirit once I find a suitable script,” he says.

He is all praise for Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra’s plans for a Football Premier League in the country, along the lines of the Indian Premiere League.

Sanjay Dutt has already pledged his support. Abraham has his fingers crossed, “It’s a noble cause and I hope their plans materialise soon.”
