In a move which could signal a huge boost for the Indian Super League (ISL), defending champions Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) have made a $1 million (Rs 6.4 crore) bid to bring former Chelsea and Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba for the second edition.

It is learnt that the 37-year-old footballer, who ended his stint at Stamford Bridge at the end of last season, was offered a four-month deal by Atletico de Madrid, one of the co-owners of the Kolkata-based ISL franchise team.
According to UK-based agent Baljit Rihal, who has been asked to act as an intermediary, Drogba’s representatives have been given the offer, but are yet to respond. "Drogba’s representatives have been given the offer and have no doubt seen it," Rihal told HT. "However, there has been no response from them as yet."
ISL clubs must confirm their marquee players by July 31, but Drogba’s camp is yet to make a decision on his future.
Rihal confirmed that Drogba has been presented with a $1 million offer for a stint of four months plus an undisclosed bonus in addition to his living costs and travel.
If he accepts, Drogba could be seen with the defending ISL champions next month for preseason before competing in the League which commences in October.
Meanwhile, Atletico de Kolkata’s spokesman refused to comment on the move, but did not deny the bid.
It is learnt that ATK have also approached Portuguese footballer Helder Postiga and currently only have the marquee player’s slot to fill in the squad.
