A motorcyclist and his pillion rider died in a suspected hit and run at Farrukhnagar in the early hours of Monday. Police are investigating the matter, but no headway has been made so far.
One of the victims has been identified as Anil Kumar (21), a resident of Rewari, but the other victim is yet to be identified.
According to the police, Anil had gone to Badli for a relative’s wedding. He and the pillion rider are suspected to have been hit by a vehicle near an isolated spot when they were returning.
Police said they received information about the incident from a passerby and rushed the victims to the civil hospital in a PCR vehicle, but they were declared dead on arrival.
“Several accidents have been reported from this spot due to an engineering defect on the road. The incline makes it difficult to spot vehicles coming from the other side,” said inspector Virender, station house officer (SHO), Farrukhnagar police station.
He added that the motorcycle seems to have been hit by a heavy vehicle going by the severe damage to it.
Police officials said Anil’s body has been sent for postmortem and they are trying to find the unidentified driver of the other vehicle, possible eyewitnesses and the second victim’s identity.
A case against the unidentified driver has been registered for rash driving and causing death due to negligence under sections 279 and 304 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Farrukhnagar police station.
In another incident, an eight-year-old girl and a 22-year-old-man were killed when a truck allegedly rammed the motorcycle they were riding on. The accident took place near a flyover in Mandawar in Sohna on Friday night and the truck driver fled the spot leaving the vehicle behind.
The victims were identified as Lukmaan and his niece Sonia of Satlaka in Sohna. They were returning from Kherli Lala after consulting a doctor for Sonia.
A case in this regard was filed at Sohna police station under sections 279 (rash driving), and 304-A (death by negligence) of the IPC. The police impounded the truck and are searching for the driver.
