Haryana govt plans to rope in Dharmendra as tourism ambassador

With a view to promote tourism Haryana government has approached Bollywood actor Dharmendra to endorse state as a tourist destination.

Haryana’s tourism minister Ram Bilas Sharma met the veteran actor in Chandigarh on Thursday to discuss the matter with him. As the State Government is planning to improve the image of the pilgrimage places in the area it is trying to rope in Dharmendra to promote state’s tourism.

Both Dharmendra and his actor wife Hema Malini also have linkage with BJP which is in power in the State. While Hema is currently MP from Mathura, Dharmendra was earlier a Lok Sabha member from Bikaner, Rajasthan.

The government is working out on a plan to promote the religious circuits of the state. According to sources, the procedure of appointing Dharmendra as the brand ambassador is still under consideration. The actor has not yet finalised anything.

Recently the state government had appointed Baba Ram Dev as the Yoga ambassador for the State and Actress Parineeti Chopra, who has always been vocal about everything, has been chosen as the brand ambassador of the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign for Haryana. This initiative is aimed at promoting the survival, protection, education and empowerment of the girl child.

In Gurgaon, the state government has focussed on developing Bharat Yatra Kendra as a tourism destination. Spread in about 100 acres in Aravali Hills on Sohna Road, which has been recently handed over to Haryana Forest Development Corporation (HFDC) for developing the site for eco-tourism. The department plans to conduct few free nature camps for Haryana school students along with the centre for environment and education.
