After blaming each other for not doing enough to solve the traffic problem for years, the city traffic police finally got some relief when the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) and the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) completed 19 pending works across the city recently.
Till January 26, both Huda and MCG completed eight pending works each.
While Huda and MCG with PWD completed two projects, HSIIDC has finished one pending work so far.
“Traffic signals have been installed at Atul Kataria and MDI Chowk. On the Old Delhi Road opposite the Maruti factory, the problem of parking for truck-trailers used for loading the cars, which used to cause inconvenience for public, has been sorted out by Huda and MCG,” said a senior traffic police official.
Earlier, the city traffic police had blamed Huda, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), HSIIDC and other departments for traffic snarls, and with the help of Facebook made public the department's grievances.
The traffic police posted major problems on the social networking site that lead to daily jams in the city — 33 are to be dealt by Huda, 11 by MCG, two by NHAI, two by PWD and one by DS Constructions.
It was to send out the message that only the police cannot be held responsible for the chaos.
“The entry and exit points on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway should be widened as the volume of traffic is increasing and the present width of these points often leads to traffic congestion. Due to sewage problem, one has to face waterlogging on both sides of the service roads at Hero Honda Chowk and even on the main road,” said the official.
“We have written several letters to these departments but the problems persist. However, the way Huda and MCG have been working now, we hope the situation will be better in future,” added the official.
