At least 20 people were injured after two groups clashed at Rahadi village in Mewat on Saturday morning during Eid celebrations.

Maintaining that two cases of rioting and assault were registered at Tauru police station on Saturday night, police said no arrest has been made yet.

Police said the clashes erupted after the morning namaz, when a discussion on Eid celebrations between the two groups of men flared up.

Police said the groups then allegedly indulged in stone pelting and assault. The injured were rushed to a private hospital, where they suffered head injuries and fractures.

Inspector Vijay Anand, SHO, Tauru city police, said that a case under sections of rioting and causing hurt has been registered and they are recording statements of members of both the groups to ascertain the sequence of events.

“After the 9am namaz and a feast that followed, the groups fought between themselves. The injured are admitted to Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Government Medical College, Nalhar, Nuh. Eight of them have sustained severe injuries. We will record their statements on Sunday morning,” Anand said, adding, “No arrest has been made yet.”

Police said they have deployed several teams in the area to prevent a flare up. They maintained that they have also roped in religious leaders and elders of both the groups to defuse tension.
