A 30-year-old private company executive was crushed after a mini-bus ran over the his motorcycle near Atul Kataria Chowk on Friday morning.
The accident led to a pile-up, resulting in a jam on the old Delhi-Gurgaon road for several hours and nearby areas.
The police said that the deceased, Prakash, was travelling from Udyog Vihar to Sheetla Mata road when the mini-bus ferrying 15 employees of a private company hit his two-wheeler. The mini-bus was going from Signature Tower towards Udyog Vihar.
Prakash, who is from Almora in Uttarakhand, died on the spot. Prakash’s friend, on another two-wheeler, also got injured in the accident, the police said.
“We have booked the bus driver, who fled the spot, for rash driving and death due to negligence. The bus has been seized,” a police spokesperson said. The case has been registered at the Civil Lines police station.
The accident that happened around 9am lead to snarls on old Delhi-Gurgaon road. Jams were reported for several hours on Sheetla Mata road and near Signature Tower. The situation was worsened by peak hour traffic and bad road condition.
Jams have become frequent on the stretch, especially after a patch caved in following the rain and waterlogging near Sector 22. Traffic also moved slowly near Hanuman Chowk and Palam Vihar cut where the road is no better.
Commuters complained that they were caght up for at least two hours.
“I was stuck in traffic for one and a half hours. Traffic officials came only after 11 am,” Anshuman Sharma, a commuter, said.
