In the wake of the shocking case of abduction and gangrape of a pub employee in Gurgaon, city deputy commissioner PC Meena has issued directions to all shopping malls and those running commercial establishments not to deploy women employees after 8pm.
If women employees are on duty after that, it should be with the permission of the labour department.
Sudden checks by the district administration can be conducted any time.
Expressing concern over rising eve-teasing and molestation cases, Meena has issued several 'do's and don'ts' for shopping mall owners and pub operators.
He said that if women employees are deputed on duty during the night shift, i.e., after 8pm, her safe transportation from home to place of work and vice-versa will be the responsibility of the employer who will have to keep a daily record of the vehicle used, its registration number, time of departure, name of the driver who is entrusted the task of picking up or dropping women employees.
Such record has to be verified from the police station house officer concerned.
The place from where the women employees board the vehicle, i.e., parking place at the office should have a CCTV camera so that it can be ascertained that the woman was not forcibly lifted. Information about women employees working after 8pm should be sent in advance to the labour department.
During inspections, permission received from the labour department for deploying women beyond 8pm will have to be shown, on demand, to any officer of the district administration. Meena appealed to the general public to send a complaint to the police and district administration about any violation of rules or creation of nuisance by shopping malls or pub owners so that action can be taken against guilty persons.
The complaints can be mailed to email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
