A 21-year-old B.Tech student allegedly committed suicide on Saturday night by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his hostel room.
Ravi Yadav, son of retired army officer Vikram Yadav, was a final year student of electrical engineering at Kamrah Institute of Information Technology (KIIT), Sohna Road. The police said that Ravi was living in room number 549 of the institute’s hostel. According to the police, Ravi refused to have dinner on Saturday night and went to his room. After some time, his colleagues went to his room and found it closed.
When they did not find any response from inside, they forced open the door and found Ravi hanging from the ceiling.
Ravi was rushed to a hospital in Badshahpur by the friends where the doctors declared him brought dead. The college authority immediately informed the police.
A suicide note has been recovered by the police.
“We got the information from the college authority. The reason as to why he took the extreme step was not immediately known. We don’t think exam stress or family problem could be the reasons,” said a police official.
“In a suicide note recovered from the room, Ravi said sorry to his family members for this step and did not hold anybody responsible for his death,” the official said.
The police said that they had sent the viscera report of the victim for further investigation. The post-mortem report has denied any foul play.
“We asked his friends about his behaviour in the hostel. All of them were shocked and could not believe that he took this extreme action,” said the official.
The victim’s body was handed over to his family after the post-mortem on Sunday afternoon.
The college authority said that Ravi was an average student and was living in the hostel for the past two years. “His conduct was good in the hostel premises,” said SS Agrawal, executive director, KIIT.
