The Gurgaon police have issued notices to discotheques and night clubs in the city, barring them from playing the song “Dengue, Malaria Bharat Mata Ki Jai.” The song is from the movie Shanghai, which will hit the theatres on June 8.
The notices were issued to various pubs and bars located in Sahara Mall, MG Road and elsewhere in Gurgaon on Tuesday. The move follows after complaints were made to the police to ban the song, the lyrics of which were found to be ‘derogatory’.
However, mall owners feigned ignorance about receiving any such notice. “We haven’t received any notice till now. We haven’t played the song at our pub even once,” said Shamsher Singh, owner of Mojo’s in DT Mall.
“Party-goers are usually fond of pop and latest songs. We haven’t played this song at our pub,” said Vijay Pal of Ignite in Sahara Mall.
On the other hand, the song seems to have become a hit with the youth.
“This is the latest number these days. I along with my friends danced to the song at a pub in Sahara Mall. I am sure it will not be banned,” said Saurabh Kumar, an engineering student. “This song is played at all places, including drinking joints, in Gurgaon. All the notices are fake. CDs are being openly sold. The Censor Board should have banned this song at the initial stage,” said Vikram Singh, a BPO executive.
