Living in the proximity of NH-8 is causing much inconvenience to residents of Sector 15, Part-1. The police have put barricades on a key turn outside the main entry to the complex impeding the smooth exit of vehicles, say residents.
While the police say that the barricades have been put up to ease traffic at Jharsa Chowk during peak hours, residents say it has led to increase in rash driving and flouting of traffic norms.
“The police had installed barricades outside our main entry two months ago for the same reason but removed them after we protested. They again placed the barricades about a week ago and this has worsened the traffic situation in our sector. Roads are now flooded with vehicles because of the barricades,” said Ramesh Vasisht, general secretary, Residents’ Welfare Association, Sector-15, Part-1.
Vasisht adds that the barricades have not only affected the internal roads but have worsened the overall traffic situation.
“People resort to driving on the wrong side as they have to negotiate a long u-turn because of the barricades,” he said.
Some residents feel that if the idea was to ease traffic to and from the highway, the turn nearest to the highway could have been barricaded.
“If they want to allow smooth flow of vehicles, they should put up barricades on the first cut near the highway and not on a key junction. This has made driving in and out of the sector a task,” says Ashwani Sharma, another resident.
Asked whether the barricades will prove as a permanent solution to traffic issue, police commissioner Alok Mittal said that spot was barricaded to regulate traffic at Jharsa Chowk. But he said that the police would talk to the residents to gauge their objections.
