As the demand for a toll-free Gurgaon gathers steam, several residents are joining hands with the Toll Hatao Sangharsh Samiti (THSS) and gearing up for a massive protest.
A meeting was held at Mohammadpur village on Friday in which locals of seven villages participated and discussed various problems related to traffic snarls at the Sirhaul and Kherki Daula toll plazas, apart from civic woes of waterlogging and potholes in service lanes between Hero Honda Chowk and Kherki Daula.
Gurgaon mayor Vimal Yadav has also lent his support to the movement. “I hail from Sirhaul village and know how the tolls have caused irreparable damage.
Once the plazas are removed, there will be no hindrances in creating safe passage for workers,” he said.
A second meeting has now been planned by members of THHS, in which residents from every locality of Gurgaon will be participating. “We will soon reveal our plan of action after a meeting with THSS. We may hold demonstrations at the two toll plazas and free them for commuters. We also plan to meet Gurgaon deputy commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi,” said Nathu Singh, sarpanch of Mohammadpur village.
Participation by local residents had been negligent during earlier protests held by THSS. “Active participation by people directly affected will carry more weight,” said Balbir Singh, a local leader.
