A Special Investigations Team (SIT) probing the attack on the human resources manager of a Japanese automotive parts firm in Manesar said they have arrested the alleged mastermind in the case.
A vendor who used to provide cabs to the victim’s firm, had allegedly hired two shooters to carry out the attack as he wanted revenge on him for terminating his contract, police said.
The arrested accused, identified as Rajesh (44), hails from Patheri village in Bilaspur near Manesar and was arrested from the village crossing around 2.30 pm, police said, adding that he had hired two assailants — Sullu and Krishna — for the job.
HR manager Dinesh Sharma was driving to work when men on two bikes followed and shot at him on the morning of June 7. He suffered a buller injury to his back, just below the neck, when one of the bikers opened fire.
The SIT had earlier arrested two suspects — Joginder Singh, who was sacked from the post of trainee engineer in the company last month, and his friend, Daya Chand, who had earlier called the victim for a meeting, where he asked his to reinstate Singh.
DCP (Manesar) Mahender Sethi, who is heading the SIT, said the two have not been given a clean chit yet.
“We have not given clean chit to the two persons arrested earlier in connection with the case. The investigation is under way. We will produce the vendor before a court on Saturday and cross-examine him during his police remand,” Sethi said.
According to Sumit Kuhar, DCP (Crime), “We are yet to ascertain the details from where the accused arranged the weapon used in crime and if he had paid any amount for an assassination.”
Sharma, however, said he does not remember terminating any cab vendor’s contract and that he has nothing to do with the contracts in the company. “The contracts are handled by the logistics department and they hire or terminate agencies supplying services. It is their domain to take a call to renew a contract or terminate it,” he said.
The firm had, on June 12, received a threat letter by post, which said that another employee would be in ‘trouble’ if Sharma was not terminated from the firm
The letter, addressed to the ‘Plant Head’ of the firm, stated, “Another Sharma is also on target. I can’t disclose what the (cause of) enmity between the Sharmas and me is (sic).” The letter also has reference to a ‘15-day ultimatum’ to meet the demand.
