Carjackers in the city continue to strike at will. In another daylight robbery on Tuesday, armed carjackers stole a Toyota Fortuner from a driver outside a mall on MG Road.
The police are also investigating the driver’s role in the case.
Delhi resident Yusuf Khan, a driver with a construction company, had come to drop the car owner at the Vatika City Point Mall on MG Road. The car owner, director of Delhi-based Newton Construction company, went inside the mall.
Around 2pm, two men in their early twenties approached the driver and asked him to drop them at a distance. When Khan refused, one of the men took out a gun, pushed him on the road and fled with the car (DL 3CV 4983).
The driver immediately informed the owner and police.
During investigation, two guards standing outside the mall alleged that they saw Khan talking to the accused.
Security guard Heera Singh (name changed) said, “The driver appeared friendly with the robbers. When the duo fled with the car, Khan did not shout or chase them. Instead he called up someone.”
Inspector Jagdish Prasad, SHO of DLF City Phase 2, said, “We are probing the matter and have registered a case.”
“The driver has been changing his statements. We are probing his involvement in the case,” added the SHO.
