A week after a 30-year-old woman was stuck in an elevator at Fresco Apartments in Sector 50, three children were stuck in a lift on Wednesday evening on the third floor of Tower 4 nearly 20 minutes. A complaint in this regard was submitted to the Sector 50 police station against the developer (Unitech).
Ravi Batra, a resident, heard the children screaming and rushed to the security guard for help.
“Around 8.30pm, I was back from office and had parked my car in the basement and was going up in the lift when I heard children screaming for help on the third floor. I was shocked and rushed to the ground floor to the security guard. He told me that the trapped persons were rescued. But when I again entered the lift, I heard them scream and rushed to help them. The guard then called up a technician and then the children were rescued after about 20 minutes.”
Batra decided to approach Sector 50 police station and lodge a complaint against the developer on Wednesday night. He said the police assured him that an FIR will be filed, but nothing has happened so far, he claimed.
Batra said the parents of the three children have also approached the police to lodge complaints separately. Batra said he has shot letters to the state and the Central government officials narrating the incident.
On August 2, Alokita Verma, a homemaker, was trapped in a lift at the Fresco complex for nearly 30 minutes.
“The children’s parents do not want to talk to the media directly but they are scared of the lifts malfunctioning again since such incidents have become frequent of late. We are worried as all lifts in Fresco are not being maintained properly by the agency concerned. The agency has blamed the developer and claimed that it has not been paid the maintenance fee for months now,” said Nilesh Tandon, president of RWA Fresco Apartments. He said the police called up Unitech (developer) representatives and lift maintenance agency but an FIR is yet to be lodged.
Unitech executives did not respond to messages and calls on the matter.
Surender Singh, SHO, Sector 50 police station, said, “We have received a complaint regarding the incident. An FIR has not been lodged yet as we are investigating the matter.’
