Giving impetus to the expansion of Millennium City, the district town planning department on Thursday approved a new urbanisation plan for Sohna and Farukhnagar.
The two draft development plans, which propose construction of hundreds of commercial and residential units in Sohna and Farukhnagar by 2031, will now be sent to the state planning committee for final approval. Sohna is about 25 kms from Gurgaon, while Farukhnagar is 21 kms away.
Once notified, home buyers who are unable to afford a flat in Gurgaon, will get options of low-cost houses in the neighbourhood.
According to Gurgaon deputy commissioner PC Meena, the plans have been prepared keeping in view the projected population of these sub-towns in 2031.
Under the plans, both the towns will get at least 50 acre of land each for various development projects. The deputy commissioner has also suggested the projected population density should be increased so that developers can construct more housing units.
The Draft Development Plan Sohna-2031 has the projected a population of 5.8 lakh.
Sohna’s present population is around 67,785 (as per the 2011 census). According to the draft, 6,110 hectare will come under the urbanisation plan, excluding the present area of Sohna town and adjoining villages.
District town planer Vijender Singh Rana said that out of the total 6,110 hectare, 1,034 hectare will be left as green belts and open spaces. A total of 1,703 hectare will be earmarked for residential purposes, 271 hectare for commercial and 1,236 hectare for industrial uses.
Sohna is situated near the proposed KMP Expressway as well as the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) from Delhi to Mumbai.
In Farukhnagar, the projected population is 1.10 lakh by 2031. Of the total 942 hectare, an area of 377 hectare has been planned for residential purposes, 36.5 hectare for commercial, and 64.4 hectare for industrial uses.
