Like last year, girls outshone boys in the Class 12 CBSE results in Gurgaon declared on Sunday. The first three positions were also grabbed by girls.

In Gurgaon, Anshika Pradhan and Nitya Chopra from Amity International School, Sector 46, secured the top position in science and commerce with 98.4% marks.

Saloni Chhabra from Blue Bells Model School, Sector 4, Tanushka Lahiri and Simran Rawat of DPS Sector 45 secured 98%, bagging the first position in humanities.

The toppers said they had not taken any private coaching and depended on school and self-studies

Talking to HT, Pradhan, a science student, “I am super excited with the results though I was expecting more than what I have secured. I am looking forward to pursuing engineering in the country’s best college. I have already appeared for the entrance exams and the results are yet to be declares”.

The girls said they stayed away from mobile phone and social media in the run-up to the exams to concentrate on their studies.

The toppers have set an example for others with self-study in a city known for coaching classes and tuitions.

Eagerly waiting on Sunday, Chopra burst into tears as soon as she saw her result online. “I was speechless but was not surprised as my teachers and friends were expecting me to be the topper. I owe this to my teachers and parents for supporting me to bring out the best in me”.

Chopra’s parents were equally elated and said, “It is a proud moment for us as our daughter has made it to the city’s toppers’ list. She has really worked hard and never demanded anything in return. She has secured 100/100 in three subjects,” said Vivek Chopra, her father.

Amity International principal Arti Chopra said, “It is a proud moment for us and this time our two students from science and commerce are toppers in the city. We taught our students that you need to give back to your teachers, parents and society. We had high hopes and the success mantra for our students was self -study.”

Chhabra’s performance was outstanding with a score of 98% and she secured 100/100 in economics through self- reparation.

“I made sure that whatever my teachers were teaching in the school, I took notes and clarified my doubts on a daily basis. I took short breaks and used to sit for more than eight hours a day,” said Chhabra.

“I am planning to pursue computer science from IIT or BITS Pilani and want to take up research in artificial intelligence,” said Rishabh Rana, a student of DAV public school.
